As a company you want to make optimal use of all your social media opportunities. Easier said than done, of course. We are already giving you a boost with 11 tips that you can easily implement in your social media strategy.
Your push in the right direction
As a company you want to make optimal use of all your social media opportunities. You make a Facebook page, you jump into Instagram, you also want to try LinkedIn. Of course Twitter or YouTube can not be missed.
But as you soon notice, social media is not just something you can quickly do in between. A good social media strategy requires an outlined approach. Easier said than done, of course.
1. Provide the right basics
Too often we see company pages that have only set the basic settings of the profile at a rapid pace. Pay attention to these 3 things and you are off to a good start:
- Provide a correct profile picture
- Also set the correct header
- Create an attractive bio
You can find out which formats best to use to design your profile picture and header in our ebook (which you can download via the button below).
You will also find all kinds of formats for the best posts on your social media platforms.
2. Extend your branding everywhere
Your social media is an online representation of your company, it is not tangible. A business card is something you can touch in your hand, just like all other gadgets that have been designed in your corporate identity.
Look at your social media platforms as a personal blog that you want to keep as beautiful as possible. Make sure that the colors of your branding are extended somewhere with each post. Although it is just a small accent somewhere on the visual.
A beautiful timeline looks more fun than a feed where the posts are randomly placed in different sizes and colors. So: extend your use of color everywhere, use your own fonts, but remember that a dose of creativity should not be missed.
3. Make a social media calendar
Everything starts with coming up with the posts. What are you going to post? Where are you going to post? When are you going to post? These are all questions that flutter through your head and that will not remain so clear in the long term.
That is why it is so important to create a social media calendar. You can schedule this calendar with a social media scheduler and your organic social media is fully automated! We recommend the following schedule platforms:
4. Use beautiful (free) visuals
Do you already know what you want to post, but you don’t have a nice image or video available? Then don’t just post something! Too often we see social media pages that choose to take a photo that is already in their possession, but is too pixelated.
Or photos that are not the right size or are irrelevant to the subject in question. There are numerous images and videos available that you can use (very often for free) without worrying about ©copyright.
5. Forget 'me', choose 'you'
We already mentioned it in our blog ‘3 killer copywriting tips’: address your target audience. Think about what’s interesting to them. Forget about yourself and talk about interesting topics. What is it that your followers like to hear?
It may sound harsh, but no one is genuinely interested in you as a company. People look for value. Value you can deliver to them!
6. Choose the right #hashtags
Hashtags that are not relevant are still used too often. Besides, there is no one who will search for that hashtag. Choose hashtags that can enhance the message of your post even more. Hashtags that you know people will search for. How many hashtags? There is still too much uncertainty about this. Even if you take 5, 10 or 30. As long as they all fit perfectly with your post, it is useful.

7. How often do I post?
Our motto is: “Post as much as you can, but do it consistently and stay relevant.” The magic formula for number of posts per week or per day does not exist. Look at your sector, benchmark and evaluate your own content. Determine afterwards what a relevant number of posts is for your company.
For example: we take 2 very different social media strategies. Nike & National Geographic (figures from meltwater.com). Nike posts several times a month, National Geographic 5 to 7 times a day. Result: both brands have a high engagement rate.
National Geographic achieves an average of 225k likes per post with an engagement rate of 0.23%. Nike does it with an average of 315k likes per post and 0.38%.* Conclusion: Both strategies can work as long as relevance is guaranteed.
8. Engage & interact
5 engagement-tips:
- Reply to all comments and like them
- Talk about topics, not only your brand
- Don’t forget your User Generated Content
- Address your customers/followers personally
- Follow the latest trends
5 interaction-tips:
- Organize questions & answers
- Organize a quiz in your stories
- Set up a poll: ask your clients opinion
- Set up contests and provide fun giveaways (but don’t do this in overload)
- Have a conversation with your customers
9. Use all available data
Do you want to get a better picture of how to interpret your social media activities? Then make the best use of all available statistics of your company account. You can see which posts are doing well and which are not.
How many unique impressions you have, which days/hours are best to post, or all kinds of insights about your followers: location, age, you name it. All free information that you can use to your advantage. We guide you to the right pages for Instagram and Facebook.
10. Facebook & Instagram shop
And now finally one for the webshop owners! Have you ever seen “those dots” on Facebook and/or Instagram? And if you click on it, you can immediately buy the products shown in the image? This is possible thanks to a Facebook or Instagram Shop.
Therefore, connect your webshop to the Facebook Shop. Your products will be imported into Facebook from a WooCommerce, Shopify or other webshop platforms. You then can tag your products in every post so that everyone who has a Facebook and/or Instagram account can immediately make the purchase.
You can either choose to redirect the customers to your webshop or you can opt for “in app purchases”, where the customers do not leave Facebook or Instagram and can pay immediately.
11. Use social media holidays
Have you ever had a less creative brainstorming session? No problem. There are still plenty “social media holidays”. Several days a year where you can simply and quickly make a nice post.
Advantage: the topic is trending on the hashtag anyway, so you are immediately up to date. The choice is enormous. Just think of #InternationalPodcastDay, #InternationalWomensDay, #DonutDay, #BlackFriday, #WorldEmojiDay, #AprilFools, NationalCoffeeDay, #GivingTuesday, and countless other days.
