Your Instagram-bio is your business card, portfolio and website at the same time. Just like in real life, you only have a few seconds to make a great first impression. But how do you best set this up? We’ll give you a few tips.
The perfect Instagram bio
Just like in real life, you only need a few seconds on social media to make a first impression. Your social media pages are also your corporate values.
That’s why it’s important to think about building your profile and your bio in particular before you start posting. But how do you best set this up? We give you a few tips.
1. Reaching your ideal target group
Your Instagram bio should explain in a snap what your company does and what visitors can expect from your page. Maybe a bit tricky in the 150 characters you’ll get, but it’s more than enough to boost your number of followers.
Your bio is the ideal place to distinguish yourself from your competitors, to appeal to your target group.
Before you start, it’s important to set up your profile picture correctly. To do this, it is best to use the appropriate dimensions for Instagram. In our blog ’11 social media tips for companies’ you will find all dimensions per platform.
2. Personalize your name
Did you know there is a difference between your name on Instagram and your username? These 2 are completely separate from each other. You can change your name (2 times in a period of 14 days) without changing your username.
What’s the reason? This way you’ll be much easier to find on Instagram. If your username doesn’t contain your service or product, Instagram users won’t find you on those particular things when they search for your username. For example: if you sell Belgian chocolate, make sure your name contains these 2 words.
Be sure to think from the perspective of your ideal customer. How will they look you up? Which keywords will be used? Once you can answer this question, you can change your name in your bio.
3. Tag a relevant hashtag
In your Instagram bio it is possible to add a clickable #hashtag. The ideal opportunity to link your account to the hashtag that appeals to you the most.
Or maybe the ideal moment to create a hype. At Fienix, we take advantage of #digitalfreedom. We want our customers to have a sense of digital freedom in a landscape full of obligations. The Instagram bio gives us the opportunity to respond to this even more.
Note: adding a hashtag in your bio does not make your profile searchable in the tagged hashtag.
4. Add your contact details
Make it easy for your Instagram visitors (and thus potential customers) to contact you. To do this, however, you must have switched to a company profile.
Once you’ve made the switch, you can choose to include your email address, phone number and address in your profile without having to use the 150 characters of your bio.
You can also add the URL to your website or webshop in your bio. Since Instagram posts cannot contain clickable links, they often refer to the ‘link in bio’. Here you either put your website yourself, or you create a link in bio-page where you can place multiple links. For this we recommend the free version of LinkTree.
5. Create beautiful Instagram Stories highlights
To make your profile look just that little bit more professional, you can group your stories into categories in your highlights. Highlights are your own chosen stories that appear in circles at the very bottom of your Instagram bio.
You can see it as a kind of movie trailer for your feed and a behind the scenes summary. Or you can make a highlight per product.
How can you make all this look even better? Create personalized highlights covers. Create a coherent whole of your entire Instagram bio and, by extension, your entire Instagram profile by drawing in your branding. Need inspiration? Take a look at how we approached it.
